I Want to Look Younger but I’m Scared of Looking Done

You’re not trying to look 20 again. You’ve just started noticing things you didn’t before. Maybe you look tired in photos, your frown lines make you look angry, your skin isn’t what it used to be, or you’re noticing more sagging around your face.

You want to look younger, but you don’t want anyone to know you’ve had anything done.

You’re not trying to look 20 again. You’ve just started noticing things you didn’t before. Maybe you look tired in photos, your frown lines make you look angry, your skin isn’t what it used to be, or you’re noticing more sagging around your face.

You’d like to do something about it, but there’s one thing holding you back: you’re scared of looking “done.”

Looking Younger Doesn’t Have to Mean Looking Different

When someone tells me they want to look younger, there’s usually something specific behind it.

They might say, “I look tired all the time,” “These lines make me look angry,” “My face is starting to sag,” or simply, “I don’t look like myself anymore.”

Sometimes it’s a photograph that starts it. You feel absolutely fine, then see a picture of yourself and suddenly notice changes you hadn’t really seen before.

Wanting to look younger doesn’t mean wanting every line removed or trying to look like a younger version of someone else. Often, it’s about softening the things that are bothering you so that when you look in the mirror, you still see yourself — just without those things drawing your attention.

What Can You Do About Lines, Sagging and Tired-Looking Skin?

There isn’t one treatment that makes everyone look younger because what bothers you might be completely different from what bothers someone else.

If it’s forehead lines, frown lines that make you look angry, or lines around your eyes, anti-wrinkle treatment may help soften them. It doesn’t have to mean a completely smooth, frozen face. If that’s something you’re worried about, you can read my guide on how to soften lines and look fresher without looking frozen.

If it’s sagging, deeper folds or the feeling that your face has started to look more tired or drawn, we would look at what has changed and where. Dermal filler can sometimes be used carefully to support and soften these areas without making your face look puffy or obviously filled.

Or perhaps it’s your skin that’s bothering you. It might look dull, feel less firm or have more fine lines than it used to. In that case, improving the quality of your skin may make more sense than trying to change the shape of your face.

This is why I don’t think you need to know which treatment you want before you come in. Start with what you see in the mirror and what is bothering you. We can work from there.

How Do I Make Sure I Don’t Look Done?

Tell me that’s what you’re worried about.

You don’t need to use the right words or understand different treatments. You can say, “I want to look younger, but I don’t want anyone to know I’ve had anything done.” That tells me a lot about the kind of result you want.

Looking natural is about choosing the right treatment for the right problem and not treating something simply because we can.

It may mean softening your frown lines but keeping some movement. It could mean using a small amount of filler in the right place rather than adding it everywhere. Or it might mean concentrating on your skin rather than changing the shape of your face at all.

And sometimes, I may tell you that I don’t think something needs treating.

You should still recognise yourself. Your expressions should still look like yours. You shouldn’t walk out looking like a different person.

The aim is that you notice the difference without feeling as though everyone else will notice the treatment.

If you want to look younger but you’re scared of looking done, you don’t have to choose between doing nothing and changing your face. A subtle approach can soften the things that are bothering you while still keeping you looking like you.

If you’re considering aesthetic treatments in Reading and want natural-looking results, you can book a consultation to talk about what you’ve noticed, what you’re worried about and what might be right for you.
